The Piper
Associate Handbook
All associates, with the exception of temporary associates employed for less than six months, will be paid the difference between their regular salary and the jury duty pay. The associate shall be excused from employment for the day(s) required in serving as a juror or witness in any court created by the United States or any state or common wealth of the United States. This shall be considered an excused absence. Regular part-time associates will receive pay for the number of hours they were scheduled to work on the days missed for jury duty.
Changing the Number of Hours Regularly Worked
The Piper associates who shift to a part-time work schedule of less than forty (40) hours per month, or who no longer occupy regular positions are no longer eligible for the full-time paid time off plan. Associates may return to work schedules that again make them eligible to participate in the paid time off plan. Any change in schedule, which permits participation in the paid time off plan, must have been approved and processed through the organization’s normal procedures.
UNPAID LEAVE
Occasionally, for medical, personal or other reasons, associates may need to be temporarily released from their duties with The Piper. It is the policy of The Piper to allow its eligible associates to apply for and be considered for certain specific leaves of absence.
Failure to return to work as scheduled from an approved leave of absence, or to inform the appropriate Human Resources of an acceptable reason for not returning as scheduled, will be considered a voluntary resignation of employment.
All requests for leaves of absence shall be submitted, in writing, to Human Resources. Each request shall provide sufficient detail such as the reason for the leave, the expected duration of the leave and the relationship of members, if applicable.
There are several types of unpaid leaves for which associates may be eligible:
Military Leave
Leaves of absence for military service will be granted in accordance with federal law.
