Michael established IVF South, one of the four clinics that formed into IVF Australia, and he has served as Clinical Director from 1996 to the present.
From 2008 to 2018, he was an active member of the CREI Committee of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists, and he was responsible for establishing the Australian and New Zealand Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Michael has been a Board Member of FSANZ for over a long period serving four years as Vice-President, and two terms as President. He has been the Chair of the Organising Committee of two of the Society’s annual scientific meetings in 2014 and 2022.
Michael led the establishment of the FSANZ professional group of Doctors in ART to represent IVF clinicians. In his academic achievements, he has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific publications and a dozen book chapters. He has excelled as a mentor of young clinicians, many of whom have progressed with distinction in reproductive medicine.
In 2021, Michael was honoured with membership of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to medical education and to obstetrics and gynaecology.
Roger Cook
Roger Cook
Roger Cook is a highly respected clinical and counselling psychologist who was inaugural President of the Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association from 1989 to 1992.
Formed initially by a group of 10 counsellors, social workers and psychologists attending the 1989 annual scientific meeting of the Fertility Society of Australia in Canberra, ANZICA membership has expanded to include representatives from every State and Territory in Australia and across New Zealand.
Roger gained a Bachelor of Science with Honours at the University of Melbourne in 1970, then Master of Education at Monash University and Doctor of Philosophy at La Trobe University.
He served as Chair of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) College of Counselling Psychology from 1991 to 1994 and he later became Director of the APS Accreditation Council.
He has been the counselling representative to the Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee (RTAC) and was President of our Society in 1996 and 1997.
Currently, Roger is Adjunct Associate Professor in Psychology at Swinburne University of Technology, and he is a consultant psychologist to Melbourne IVF and Monash IVF.
Roger has been an excellent contributor to many professional publications and presenter at numerous conferences, particularly about psychological issues among people experiencing male infertility.
He has also been active in submissions to State and Federal government inquiries and reviews of laws and guidelines relating to infertility treatment, especially issues regarding surrogacy.
Phillip Matson
Phillip Matson
Born in East Yorkshire, Phillip Matson gained his honours degree in human biology at London University before completing a PhD on ovarian function in the golden hamster in the Faculty of Medicine at Kings College Hospital, London.
In January 1985, Phill began a two-year contract as Senior Reproductive Biologist with John Yovich at PIVET in Perth. As a measure of the success of this collaboration, Phill and John generated 30 peer reviewed publications.
Phill returned to the United Kingdom to take senior positions in Manchester including Honorary Research Fellow in the University of Manchester Department of Pathology and Consultant Clinical Scientist at the Regional IVF Unit, St Mary’s Hospital.
