Nurses urged to join the newly-formed SIG to access free, quality education programs
The ASPIRE Reproductive Nurses SIG is working hard to develop further education and professional development programs for its members.
The SIG has been formed under the direction of inaugural Co-Chairs Carmel Carrigan in Australia and Astor Tse in Hong Kong.
Carmel is Nurse Coordinator for Care Fertility in Brisbane. She has extensive fertility nursing experience spanning the past 25 years including involvement in operating theatre, donor conception and quality management roles.
“We are very grateful to ASPIRE President, Professor Tin- Chiu Li, and the Board for including fertility nurses in the ASPIRE family,” Carmel said.
“Nurses are encouraged to join the newly-formed SIG to access free, quality education programs being developed on their behalf.
“I am passionate about education and the team approach to quality patient centred care and believe

we have a great opportunity to lead the way into the future of reproductive nursing throughout the Asia Pacific region.
“We are reaching out to broaden our horizons including engagement with nursing colleagues in other respected international bodies such as the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ).
“A priority is to encourage participation in our education programs and ASPIRE meetings, including enhancing the presentation skills of our member nurses.
“Communication is a challenge as we have members across such a large part of the world featuring many different languages. ASPIRE is working to address this challenge through the development of real time translation services in the various on-line webinars and courses that will be a great benefit to our group.
“We have received very positive feedback to our education programs to date including the Certificate Course in Management for ART.”
Carmel highlighted the incentive of free ASPIRE membership in 2023 for reproductive nurses and registered midwives, along with fertility counsellors.
