Now according to the email, the LAT has voted that proposed language be added to another bill that specifically singles out the Real Estate Commission for this type of panel.
First . . . the LAT was established to be able to act quickly on existing legislative proposals that may need minor adjustments to meet the goals of the Association and its Members, not to craft legislation or amendments to existing legislation without discussion with or approval by the leg reg committee. I fail to see how this action would qualify.
Secondly . . . to single out the Real Estate Commission with this type of action without the courtesy of discussing the issue with the Executive Director or any of the sitting Commissioners is inexcusable. The relationship between the Commission and the Association should be one of mutual respect.
Thirdly . . . the Association's own Pro Standards hearing process is almost identical to the current process in the Real Estate Commission. Would the individuals promoting this idea be open to allowing this type of process outside of our Association to cover our Ethics and Arbitration Hearings?
It is my sincere hope that personal agendas are not being used here to influence decisions of the LAT. That is unhealthy for any organization.
Please consider allowing the upcoming Leg Reg meeting (as well as future meetings) to be open to all until and unless the bylaws are changed to make it a closed meeting.
