George Washington Endowment Fund
The National Society George Washington Endowment Fund (GWEF), Fund Raising Sub- Committee is charged with conducting fund- raising activities to help raise money for the GWEF and in the recruitment of new George Washington Fellows. The National Sub- Committee Chairman is Jim Maples of the Alabama Society. The Arizona representative on the National Sub-Committee is David E. Thompson, who participated in the Spring and Fall 2021 National Leadership Sub-Committee teleconference video meetings.
The National GWEF Fund Raising Sub- Committee brochure outlines the history and guidelines of the GWEF:
“The GWEF was established by the Executive Committee and approved by the Trustees on February 27, 1993. The fund was created to establish a permanent restricted fund for support of NSSAR unfunded and underfunded committees and special projects. The GWEF is managed by a GWEF Board. The endowment fund has grown annually to continue support of approved NSSAR activities and projects. The corpus of the fund is never touched.
Becoming a George Washington Fellow is not limited to SAR members. Spouses, children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces are all eligible. And once a George Washington fellow, the donor is always listed as a George Washington Fellow. All new George Washington Fellows receive a beautiful gold lapel pin, a certificate acknowledging their status as a GW Fellow, and their name is added to the list of all George Washington Fellows in the NSSAR Library.”
Individuals donating $1,000 or more are recognized as George Washington Fellows. Gifts may be paid in lump sum of installments of $200 or more annually over a five-year period. All contributions are tax deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
There are payment options available for donation online at: www.sarfoundation.org. Click on “Ways to Give” at the top and the GWEF is listed as one of the drop downs. The enrollment pamphlet is available for review, and for completion of the application paperwork, which must be filled out for check or credit card donations.
During 2021, Arizona Compatriot Michael S. Kaehler, Phoenix SAR Chapter, became a National Society SAR George Washington Fellow. Congratulations to Compatriot Kaehler. Respectfully,
David E. Thompson
