300,000 people have died there in the last four years, 1.2 million have
been injured and 11 million people have been forced from their homes.
Although some European countries have reported the use of chemical
weapons, torture and deliberate bombing of civilian areas, many coun-
tries are just watching what is happening. The place the reports are
delivered to is again the UN, where 193 countries are represented. Yet
UN is unable to find a solution to the refugees fleeing the country or
to establish safe zones, let alone find a solution to the genocide in the
country. Of course it would be wrong to blame the US, European coun-
tries or the UN directly when it comes to Syria. However, it still appears
that in some people's eyes, 'Genocide in that country is not so very
important.'
Syria, one of the most
beautiful countries in the
Middle East, has turned
into a battlefield with tanks
running rampant through
its streets over the last five
years. Will those who feel
embarrassed when recall-
ing the massacres of
Rwanda or Bosnia feel re-
morse for Syria in the fu-
ture and say, "We could
have prevented it"?
