Those who are not priests never-
                                                         theless assist priests in the col-
                                                         lection of offerings, believing that
                                                         they will gain merits for a future
                                                         life. Buddhist priests walk the
                                                         streets early in the mornings,
                                                         with bowls in their hands, accept-
                                                         ing offerings from the people. But
                                                         this superstitious practice, done
                                                         in the name of worship will do
                                                         them no good in this world or the
                                                         next, unless God wills otherwise.
