The huge volume of water in the earth's seas keeps the planet's temperature in balance. For this
reason, the differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures are quite small in regions
near the sea, especially along seacoasts. In desert regions far from the sea, the difference be-
tween daytime and nighttime temperatures can be as high as 40°C.
