iolets, hyacinths, daisies, roses and other flowers are
V such sweet-smelling natural wonders. Cherries,
peaches, apples, grapes, strawberries, oranges and
other fruits offer their wonderful flavors and caches of
vitamins. Pines, cypresses, poplars and other trees supply oxygen for
living things. These are among the wonderful blessings that God has
given to human beings.
Every one of these plants displays the wonders that God has cre-
ated with His eternal power. They are too beautiful, have systems too
complex, and provide advantages too indispensable for them to be in
the least attributable to chance. This is as true for a tiny seed as for
the tree that will grow from it to a height of several hundred meters.
In the Qur'an (55: 10-13), God speaks to those who claim that
these beautiful things are the work of blind, unconscious processes:
He laid out the earth for all living creatures. In it are fruits and
date-palms with covered spathes, and grains on leafy stems
and fragrant herbs. So which of your Lord's blessings do you
both then deny?
