In order to grasp the magnitude of these numbers, which stretch far
beyond the bounds of the imagination, we can cite a few examples from
astronomy: There are around 100 billion stars in the Milky Way, and the
number of galaxies in that part of the universe we can observe is around
100 billion. But even these numbers fail to equate to the number of con-
nections among the cells in the brain.
Isaac Asimov, biochemist and author, states how there can be no
evolutionary explanation for this structure:
