56 The Glad Tidings of the Messiah (pbuh)
The narrative of the Prophet John's (pbuh) birth in the Gospel
of Luke is compatible with these verses. The Prophet Zechariah
(pbuh) was the Prophet John's (pbuh) father, and he and his wife
were, according to Luke, "upright in the Sight of God, observing all
of the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly" (Luke
1:6). Both were old, and neither could have children. But
Allah gave the Prophet Zechariah (pbuh) the news of a
son, as follows:
