P. 99
"… a certain apparatus of coercion, an apparatus of violence,
such as is represented at the present time, as you all realise, by
armed contingents of troops, prisons and other means of subju-
gating the will of others by force—all that which constitutes THE
ESSENCE OF THE STATE."
"THE STATE IS A MACHINE FOR MAINTAINING THE
RULE OF ONE CLASS OVER ANOTHER."
"And WE SHALL PLACE THIS MACHINE IN THE HANDS
OF THE CLASS THAT IS
TO OVERTHROW THE
POWER OF CAPITAL.
We shall reject all the old
prejudices about the state
meaning universal
equality—for that is a
fraud: as long as there is
exploitation there can-
not be equality. …
THEN THERE WILL
BE NO STATE AND
NO EXPLOITATION.
Such is the view of our
Communist Party." 53
Communist ideology is opposed
to the state and to state institu-
tions. They frequently use this in
their ideological propaganda, and
seek to impose the idea on the
masses.
