As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to
him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and
what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" Je-
sus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will
come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive
many." (Matthew, 24:3-5; Mark, 13:3-5)

"At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or,
'There he is!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets
will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the
elect—if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. So if
anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or,
'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it." (Matthew, 24:23-
26; Mark, 13:21-22)

... There were also false prophets among the people, just as there will
be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive
heresies... bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will fol-
low their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disre-
pute. In their greed these teachers will exploit... (2 Peter, 2:1-3)

7. The faith is distorted and distanced from its true
essence:

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doc-
trine... They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside
to myths. (2 Timothy, 4:3-4)
