H Their handiwork is just a magician’s trick.
Magicians do not prosper wherever they go.’
HÂBIL AND QÂBIL (SEE ABEL AND CAIN) (20:69)
You will see the mountains you reckoned to be
HAJJ (SEE PILGRIMAGE) solid going past like clouds–the handiwork of
Allah Who gives to everything its solidity. He is
HALAL (SEE LAWFUL) aware of what you do. (27:88)
He entered the city at a time when its inhabitants
HAMAN were unaware and found two men fighting
there–one from his party and the other from his
We desired to show kindness to those who were
enemy. The one from his party asked for his sup-
oppressed in the land and to make them leaders
port against the other from his enemy. So Musa
and make them inheritors and establish them
hit him, dealing him a fatal blow. He said, ‘This is
firmly in the land and to show Pharaoh and
part of Satan’s handiwork. He truly is an outright
Haman and their troops the very thing that they
                                            and misleading enemy.’ (28:15)
         were fearing from them. (28:5-6)
Have they not seen how We created for them, by
The family of Pharaoh picked him (Musa) up so
Our own handiwork, livestock which are under
that he might be an enemy and a source of grief
                                            their control? (36:71)
to them. Certainly Pharaoh and Haman and their
troops were in the wrong. (28:8)
                                            HAPPINESS
Pharaoh said, ‘Council, I do not know of any
On the Day it comes, no self will speak except by

to Musa’s god! I consider him a blatant liar.’

long as the heavens and earth endure, except as
And Qarun and Pharaoh and Haman–Musa

Those who believe and do right actions, happi-
arrogant on the earth. They could not outstrip Us.

We sent Musa with Our Signs and clear authority
Some faces on that Day will be radiant. (88:8)
to Pharaoh, Haman and Qarun. But they said, ‘A
         lying magician.’ (40:23-24)
                                            HARAM (SEE FORBIDDEN)
Pharaoh said, ‘Haman, build me a tower so that
perhaps I may gain means of access, access to
                                            HARDSHIP
the heavens, so that I can look on Musa’s God.

Truly I think he is a liar.’ That is how Pharaoh’s
ease and hardship, those who control their rage
evil actions were made attractive to him and he
and pardon other people– Allah loves the good-
debarred others from the Path. Pharaoh’s schem-

We sent Messengers to nations before you, and
HANDIWORK afflicted those nations with hardship and distress
so that hopefully they would humble themselves.
