The hexagonal shaped lenses
constituting the eyes of a fly
provide a much larger area of
vision than an ordinary lens
does. In some flies, the number
of these lenses may sometimes
be as many as 5,000.
Additionally, the spherical
structure of the eye also
enables the fly to see its back,
and thus gives it a great
advantage over its enemies.
