              Location: Near Santiago, Dominican Republic

              Period: Oligocene

              Weevils, which are part of the family Curculionoidea with its more than 60,000 species, are
              insects that damage crops. Millions-of-years-old weevil fossils show that there has been no
              change in these creatures' structures for as long as they have been in existence—meaning that
              they were never subjected to evolution.
