The Jurassic Period (206 to 144 million

This part of the Mesozoic saw large numbers
and varieties of dinosaurs. At the end of the

But many life forms have survived
unchanged since the Jurassic—in other words,

without undergoing any form of evolution. The
fossil record is full of examples of such creatures.
One of the earliest known fossil crocodiles, for
instance, is around 200 million years old. There

are also examples of fossilized Tuatara lizards

systems and complex structures as they do today.

the same as the dragonflies of our day.
