Age: 113 to 97 million years old
Size: 1.9 centimeters (0.7 in) at the apex of its
oval, and 5.3 centimeters (2.1 in) across
Location: Mahajanga, Madagascar
Period: Cretaceous, Albian Stage
Looking at fossils, we see that there is no
difference between creatures that lived
hundreds of millions of years ago and their
living counterparts. One such life form is the
nautilus, which has undergone no changes
since the moment they first came into
existence. The 113- to 97-million-year-old
fossil shown here illustrates this.
