94 L LOVE IN THE TORAH
Then, and only then, will he better understand that it is actually hatred
which is arduous and realize what a torment it is to live in a state of
mind that is not only spiritually but physically painful. It should also be
remembered that God grants a wonderful life, both in this world and
in the Hereafter, to those who uphold and spread love, for this is what
those people pray for by asking their Lord for love. God surely answers
the prayers.
We are obliged to firmly establish in our souls the love of God but
this alone is not enough: It is also a crucial form of worship to be able
to call others to this beauty. People need to be educated so that the ter-
ror, destruction, tyranny and war brought about by hatred will cease.
If false beliefs are eliminated and replaced by the correct ones, then the
calamities bred by false beliefs will likewise be eradicated. People
should be told about the fact that their existence in this world is not an
aimless one, and that they did not come into being by coincidence.
They should be made aware that everyone is created by God for a pur-
pose. Thus, people should bear in mind that they are fully responsible
