Hurries a New Wave of
Executions in China," in
the September 9, 2001,
edition of The New York
Times, it was stated that
some 191 executions are
carried out daily as the
result of statements
given under torture.
According to the report,
at least 3,000 people had
been executed since
April, and a further two
or three times that figure
were expected to be exe-
cuted.
The article "Execution
in China, Through a
Brother's Eyes" in the
March 11, 2001, edition
of The New York Times
told the story of Qui
Xuanming, who was
shot in the back of the
head in front of his
brother because he was
unable to pay his tax
debt.
