An article called "Rare
Chinese Newspaper Expose
Details Prisoner Organ
Harvests" in The Washington
Post reported a story in the
Chinese press about the sale
of internal organs of people
who had been executed. It
concerned a former soldier
who had been executed and
his organs removed. It was
first reported in a local
Chinese paper, and then ap-
peared in the Western media.

To the left can be seen an arti-
cle that appeared in The
Observer called "China sells
organs of slain convicts." The
story reported that the organs
were generally sold to rich pa-
tients from abroad. Based on a
number of sources, the price
of a kidney is in the region of
$10,000. The fact that thou-
sands of people are executed
in China every year helps to
show why the Chinese govern-
ment is so insistent on contin-
uing the organ trade.
