lower speed, approximately 400 km/second. This is called the "solar wind".
Solar winds are controlled by a layer of charged particles called the "Van
Allen Radiation Belt" which is produced under the effect of the magnetic
field of the earth, and thus they cause no harm to the world. The forma-
tion of this layer is made possible by the characteristics of the world's core.
The core contains magnetic metals like iron and nickel. What is more
important is that the nucleus is made up of two different structures. The
inner core is solid while the outer core is fluid. These two layers of the
core move around each other. This movement creates a magnetic effect in
metals which leads to the formation of a magnetic field. The Van Allen Belt
is an extension of this magnetic field that stretches to the outermost reach-
es of the atmosphere. This magnetic field protects the earth against the
dangers likely to come from space. Solar winds cannot pass through the
Van Allen Belt, 40,000 miles from the earth. When in the form of electri-
cally charged particles they meet this magnetic field, they decompose and
          flow around the belt.

If "the canopy well guarded" had not existed, the dangers awaiting the earth
would unquestionably not be as few as those in the picture.
