140 THE MIRACLE OF PROTEIN

these proofs, anyone of intelligence and a good conscience will
comprehend that God is the Lord of everything:
He said, "The Lord of the East and the West and everything

between them if you used your intellect." (Qur’an, 26:28)

                             Enzymes:
                            Special Accelerators for Life

In a single second, more processes than can possibly be
counted take place in the bodies of living things. These process-
es are so detailed that super regulators must intervene to estab-
lish order and accelerate events. These super regulators are en-

                        zymes.
Inside every living cell there are thousands of enzymes
which assist in the copying of DNA, breaking down nutrients,
producing energy from foodstuffs, and permitting large mole-
cules to form from simple ones.

In order to accelerate the chemical processes that need to
take place inside the cell, either a hotter, cooler, or a more acidic
or a more alkaline environment is required. The correct envi-
ronment is crucial for the necessary chemical processes to take
place to keep the cell alive. On the other hand, if it is too alka-
line, acidic or hotter than ideal, the proteins inside the cell will

                        break down immediately.
Were it not for the enzymes, then no functions of your
cells, from the simplest to the most complex, would be possi-
ble, or else their activity would slow practically to a halt. In ei-

ther case, the result would be the same. You would be unable
to breathe, eat anything, digest, see or speak; in short, you
                        would die.
