We sent down the Torah con tain ing gui dance
and light, and the Prophets who had sub mit ted them -
selves gave judge ment by it for the Jews—as did their schol ars
[Rabaniyun] and their rab bis [Ahbar]—by what they had been al-

lowed to pre serve of Allah's Book to which they were wit ness es...
(Surat al-Ma'ida, 44)

Then We gave Moses the Book, com plete and per fect for
him who does good, elu ci dat ing every thing, and a gui -
dance and a mercy, so that hope ful ly they believe in
their encoun ter with their Lord. (Surat al-An'am, 154)

But before it there was the Book of Moses as a model [imam]
and a mercy. And this is a cor rob o rat ing Book in the
Arabic tongue so that you may warn those who do wrong, and
as good news for the good-doers. (Surat al-Ahqaf, 12)

We sent Moses with Our signs: "Bring your peo ple
from the dark ness to the light, and remind them of the
Days of Allah." There are cer tain ly signs in that for every -

one who is stead fast, thank ful. (Surah Ibrahim, 5)
