WISDOM AND SOUND ADVICE FROM THE TORAH
had curtains, with ten posts and ten bases, with silver hooks
and bands on the posts. (Exodus, 38:11-12)
Thick Beams
And he made the porch of pillars: the length thereof was fifty cu-
bits, and the breadth thereof thirty cubits; and a porch before
them; and pillars and thick beams before them. (1 Kings, 7:6)
... There were thick beams of wood upon the face of the porch
without. And there were narrow windows and palm-trees on
the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch;
there were also the brackets of the house, and the thick
beams. (Ezekiel, 41:25-26)
Decorated Baths
He made the Sea of cast metal, circular in shape, measuring
ten cubits from rim to rim and five cubits high. It took a line
of thirty cubits to measure around it. Below the rim, gourds
encircled it—ten to a cubit. The gourds were cast in two rows
in one piece with the Sea. The Sea stood on twelve bulls,
three facing north, three facing west, three facing south and
three facing east. The Sea rested on top of them, and their
hindquarters were toward the center. It was a handbreadth in
thickness, and its rim was like the rim of a cup, like a lily
blossom. It held two thousand baths. (1 Kings, 7:23-26)
The Sea and the twelve bulls under it; the pots, shovels and
sprinkling bowls. All these objects that Huram made for King
Solomon for the house of the Lord were of burnished bronze.
(1 Kings, 7:44-45)
