requests were readily accepted by the Prophet (pbuh). This meant that
these communities sought the protection of the Messenger of God
(pbuh) in the face of an attack or a wrongful accusation. Throughout
his life, many non-Muslims and pagans requested protection from the
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), and he took them under his protection
and ensured their security. In the Qur'an God advises that requests of
pagans seeking protection be accepted by believers. Of this, God says

            the following:

If any of the idolaters ask you for protection, give them protection
until they have heard the words of God. Then convey them to a place
where they are safe... (Qur'an, 9:6)

Mosques, churches and synagogues are spe-
cial places of prayer where the name of God is
revered. In the Qur'an, God says that all these
sanctuaries must be respected and preserved.
