Tribute from Sister - Felicia Osei-Bediako
Sunday, 20th December, 2020, I woke up as normal going about my usual Sunday duties. Just before the end of church service, my
daughter walked in with the heart-breaking news – my sister, my guardian had passed away to be with the Lord. It already feels like
years, but only a few months now.
I stayed with you at Abetifi at an early age of 9 for two years before leaving for Agogo Girls’ School. Just after 3 months in Agogo,
our beloved father went to be with the Lord so, at an early age of 11 years, you took me on; you looked after me through my middle
school education. Sisi, as I always called you, thank you so much for all that you did for me. Despite the dire financial constraints
we faced as a family, because of the untimely death of our beloved father, you encouraged me to continue my education. I remember
very well when you asked me to go and lead you somewhere only to realise that you had secretly purchased all that I needed for
secondary school. Your words still ring through in my mind “I’m not the one going to look after you. God is the One who will be
helping me look after you in school”. Those were the very words which led me to finally decide to go to secondary school and put
my all into it.
Sisi, you were a very respected and busy teacher in Adeiso, yet to be able to meet the financial demands my education had placed
on you, you still woke up every dawn and went to the farm with our mother to make sure we had food on the table everyday; and to
be able to sell some to make extra money to cover other expenses. You didn’t care what anybody thought.
Your love and support for me didn’t end when I finished school but continued to support my children in whichever way you could.
You are the gift I never asked for but always needed. Without your unending love and support, I don’t even know what my life and
that of my children would have been like. I really miss being able to call you any time and spend hours talking about our lives: the
good and the bad, and the hope you gave me to keep going.
Your life has taught me that humility is a hallmark and that we should always look to God, trusting Him totally in the face of adversity.
Rest in peace, my sister. Rest in peace my guardian. Rest in peace my “mother and father” Rest in perfect peace my best friend.
Sisi, da yie – Nyame mfa wo nsie na ataban ase.
