OUR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & BELONGING (DEIB) COMMITMENT:
THE PATH FORWARD
Laurel’s DEIB story is ongoing and evolving, and while we have made significant progress since 2004 in
the areas of hiring, professional development, the diversity of our Board of Trustees, and our curriculum, we recognize that much work remains to be done.
With the assistance and support of the Laurel community—including trustees, leadership, staff, faculty, parents, students and alumnae—we now have a blueprint that will put us on a path to become an Anti-Racist School. Grounded in growth and understanding, Anti-Racism at Laurel means identifying and eliminating practices, structures and policies that do not promote racial equity.
Our path forward, which has been approved by Laurel’s Board of Trustees, builds upon the steps we have taken together over the past two decades and has specific action steps designed
to meet future goals we believe are both aspirational and achievable. We accept we will have missteps along the way; but we will learn from them together, recover and keep moving. We know that our commitment to deliver a superb education for all students will be enhanced by this work.
As we commit to continuing this work over the coming months and years
to realize our goals, we are striving to create an inclusive organization focused on respecting, affirming
and honoring each member of our community and making space for
all voices to be heard in a way that upholds Laurel’s mission and values.
It is about growing and understanding together. We recognize and are grateful for the time that many have given to help us look honestly and critically
at our past, better understand our present, and plan for a future that ensures Laurel is a school that is welcoming for all.
