SPLS 1 04 Assessment Task 1 Essay
In terms of the facilities and athletes, it is very unlikely that athletes training on most non-profit
facilities will become class athletes due to the lack in standards, unfortunately it is more probable
for then through use of Profit based sporting structures as a lot more money is pumped into the
        organisation to create impeccable facilities.
However, these financial constraints do not prevent
an athlete from excelling, many athletes have come
from nothing in terms of training facilities and ended
up being world renowned athletes! WPCC as
mentioned, does not have state of the art facilities. It
is a non-profit sporting structure, with two beautiful
Astros, but only one of them is of top quality and
awfully hard to access regularly as so many club
teams play on it. In saying this the club produced
two outstanding female SA hockey players (see right
image of Tarryn Glasby and Quanita Bobbs
        representing WPCC). Nothing is impossible!

To finish off, when it comes to concluding which sporting organisation is better for the community,
a huge positive that non-profit sporting organisations have over profit based, is the very fact that
their community service and engagement is far higher than that of profit based. Membership fees
are far more affordable for people belonging to a non-profit sports club than that of profit- simply
because the business is not profit driven and is rather more focused on providing opportunities to
the general public. This is the very reason I feel that non-profits are special organisations because
they have the communities best interests at heart. Although not top-class facilities, if a player
simply wants to engage with sport without striving to get to top level, then non-profits are the best
organisations to join. But if a player really wants to go far, then maybe seeking a profit driven
sporting organisations will help meet the athletes specific training requirements better. It really
does come down to the sportsman’s personal preferences and affordability too. I genuinely believe
more support and funding into non-profit organisations is the best way to grow a sporting
community and create incredible opportunities without the need to chase paper.
