Jamie Jackson touches the gas of the snow plow simulator and the screen in front of him starts to move. It appears it is a li le slicker than the veteran Lambton County operator calculated. Jackson doesn’t hit any cars or polls or the deer jumping out in front of him but when he’s done he breathes a sigh of relief. Jackson admits the simula- tor is more di cult than he thought adding normally there isn’t that much tra c on his designated route at three in the morning. Jackson was just one of 27 Lambton County public works employees tes ng their skills at the annual skills event. Workers manoeu- vered snowplows around a course
in the Petrolia works yard gaining points for backing into di cult spots, driving through narrow passageways and stopping in a designated spot which was just a few inches wide. Paul Dalton of Dawn-Euphemia says the event is sanc oned by the Associa on of Ontario Road Superintendents and the top two nishers from Lambton - Sco Leitch of Brooke-Alvinston and Al Whitson of Dawn-Euphemia will compete in the provincial compe on this fall.
