Double Coin Knot
The double coin knot represents two antique Chinese coins overlapping one anoth-
er, which connotes both prosperity and longevity. It is a flat knot without outer
loops, made by overlapping and stringing a series of ear loops together. Some of the
different types of modified double coin knots are shown below. Others are taught in
the author’s Chinese Knotting: Creative Designs That Are Easy and Fun! and Fun with
Chinese Knotting: Making Your Own Fashion Accessories and Accents.
Modified Knots
The priciple of press one, pull one can be used to extend the length of the basic
double coin knot to produce the broad double coin or long double coin knot.

Modified Knot Bodies
A compound double coin knot can be made using the press one, pull one technique
of the double coin knot, but with four cord ends. If a single cord end is used, a ring-
like pattern – called the round compound double coin knot – is formed.
Below are two formulae for making “n” numbers of odd number round double
coin knots (see page 110) and even number round double coin knots (see page 111).
