Invisible Rail Back in Sector 7
by Nat Cornet Cabycab
For as long as I’ve been,
I’ve borne witness to sendings,
Countless people unseen,
Beginnings and endings.
Their eyes are never the same.
There’s no getting off,
When the rails have no choice,
But as sure as there’s pain,
There’s chance to rejoice.
I’ve seen one that bit more.
From the door I’ve watched all others,
The old returns of war,
And the birth of brand new mothers,
Yet it gets to me no more.
Your silent witness to history.
And then one day I heard a tale,
Retold by a bright-eyed man,
He came and said it’s time to bail,
This place ain’t worth a damn.
The plate would fall,
To end it all,
But I just can’t bear to leave it now.
