NJ TOURISM IS AN EMERGING

ASSET TO THE ECONOMY

H

ow many Atlantic City casino closure news articles have you read in the

past year?

Despite the countless headlines, the New Jersey travel economy sig-
niicantly grew in 2014. As a matter of fact, according to economic impact

studies, tourism demand grew as much as 3.8 percent in 2014 to reach
$42.1 billion. We have more than just the shore region to thank for that;

further inland, prestigious universities like Princeton and Rutgers attract students from
all over the country, which increases economic growth in travel and tourism. These are

just a few examples of tourism sectors that make up the region as a whole.
Just eight years ago, 72.9 million visitors chose New Jersey as their destination and

just this last year the number grew 20 percent to include 93.2 million visitors. The
growth in economic impact doesn’t stop there: the tourism industry accounts for one in

10 jobs in New Jersey, which makes for a desirable spot for commerce
and community as a whole.

their destination. Last
while the entertainment industry is directly impacted by tourism
growth, tourism promotion services are indirectly afected which causes year, the number grew

increases in demand for oice supplies and computers. (If you’re inter- 20 percent to include
