hur left the army in March 1919.
In 1923 his marriage to Lilian Paige, whom he met whilst working
as a gardener at Apethorpe Hall, was registered in Oundle.
His young family moved shortly thereafter to the village of
Sacombe, in Hertfordshire, and ended up settling in the town
of Hertford, where Arthur and Lilian had five children. Arthur
became a postman and loved cricket and football. He was the
Captain of the cricket team (Mr Arthur’s 11) for a time and in his
later years became Hertford Cricket Club’s groundsman.
Following his retirement, Arthur and Lilian were offered
accommodation in one of the Alms-houses and returned to
Kings Cliffe.
He died at Peterborough in 1982.
NOTE: Arthur’s sister, Rose Ettie Mason, married H E Dixon.

MASON Frederick Charles
Born in 1892 in Kings Cliffe, Frederick was the second son of
John and Jane Mason of Kings Cliffe.
In 1911, he was living with his mother on Park Street, Kings
Cliffe, and working as a gardener. He was 18 years old. There
are too many Frederick Masons in the medal cards to identify
him accurately. It is, however, unlikely that he would not have
been conscripted into the army in early 1916.
In 1923 he married Lucy Brooks in Wellingborough.

MASON George
Private 2004432 The Buffs (East Kent Regiment)
Born in 1895 in Kings Cliffe, George was the youngest son of
John and Jane Mason.
The cap badge in his photograph shows he was in the Buffs, but
unfortunately, without knowing the battalion, we cannot take his
war story further.
He married Nellie M Walker in 1918 and died tragically in 1935
in a motor-bike accident.
