Malaysian students are only getting nine years worth of meaningful education despite the average 12 years of schooling compared to Singapore or South Korea -World Bank Study C hildren undergo critical developmental stages that require important nurturing for the to become successful adults. A large part of their growing years are spent in school, and they accumulate more than 1,000 hours of learning each year. Their cognitive, emtional, social, and language development will be largely shaped by the environment they are in. A teacher-centred classroom, where knowledge comes mainly from the teacher and students spend their time being passive listeners, is inadequate in preparing the latter for the future. 21st century education is de ned as an all-encompassing learning experience with plenty of opportunities for collaborative learning, independent and individualised learning and soft skills building. The Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-1025 highlights the need for schools to become learner-centred to make learning engaging and relevant.
