A Going the Extra Mile with ECA(s) EGR xtracurricular activities (ECAs) do not only contribute to a child’s development; they have also become an important part of the university preparation process. The competition among college and university applicants has became so formidable that impressive grades are no longer the sole deciding factor for admissions. Students have to consider other factors in order to stand out among the crowd. One of these is students’ involvement in extracurricular activities.This allows them to demonstrate their ability to excel in other aspects of life in addition to their academics. However, they cannot be just any activities. Universities are looking at how applicants have gone above and beyond their intended area of study to make an impact or excel within the related eld. What matters to them is the person behind the grades. As such, it is very important for students to be thoughtful and strategic about the ECAs in which they choose to participate. 28 Beyond the Classroom
