“Keep improving!” is Mia Dawson’s Goal
Meet Mya Dawson from Quesnel, BC, Canada. Mya is 14 years old, and attends Quesnel Junior School. She has 2 older sisters and an older brother that her family adopted approx- imately 4 years ago. Her sister Shelby also races, (see story in this issue) but her other sister and her brother never raced. Her older sister was killed in an auto accident in 2008.
As a kid, Mya played with both dolls and cars. She enjoyes many TV shows, especially animal ones. Her fa- vorite holiday(season) would be sum- mer, RACING SEASON! One thing most people don’t know about her is that she is really shy. She has worked at Mc- Donalds for almost 9 months now,
and is not sure that any-
one at work
knows she
races except
her boss.
Mya is in grade
9 at Quesnel Ju-
nior School. She
is thinking about
going into the
medical field after
she finishes school,
into the sports ther-
apy field.
When she is not racing,
she likes to play sports such as volleyball and basketball. Her family also likes to
ski and snow- board as a family.
Mya does not have a favor- ite race car driver, but admires a lot of them.
Mya has al- ways been very interest- ed in racing and when she was old enough to race
Mya races at Mission Raceway Park in a 1978, Z28 yellow Camaro with a 350. She races in the Jr. street class. There are many other female racers at
her track, and she is friends with some of them. She is best friends with her sister Shelby, and Shelby’s best friend Kelsey, as well as Kailee and Sophia. Her class of Jr Street is consistently
at least half female racers.
Her current racing career goal is
just to keep improving. Her favor- ite part of racing is the excitement, and adrenaline she gets when she is sitting in
the staging lanes. Mya said to be a success- ful race car driver is to be a grace- ful winner and loser,
and to consistently
cut a light.
Her car number is 678. Originally she had picked a different number, but she was given this one with her license.

Jr. Street she jumped at the
opportunity! She
bought her car
when she was only
12 years old and
started racing it
when she was
13. Her most
memorable
moment of her
racing career would
be when she beat her sister at the very beginning of her racing career and won the provincial championship. There was no one single person who inspired her to start racing, it was just being around everyone who did that gave her the bug.
Mya has people help with her car, but her Dad helps the most!
