Photographer Dani Farr Provides Racing Memories
Racing has been a part of Dani Farr’s family since way before she was born. Her mom actually used to race odysseys when she was younger.
Dani really found her passion for the sport at around the age of 7, when her Uncle Eric was racing quads. At the age of 9 her step-dad began rac- ing a 2-man Thunder Car and she found herself hanging at the shop every night asking all kinds of questions about how everything worked.
Dani remembers a time when she was in school and had a teacher call hermothertoconfirmthatshehadac- tually been spending all this time in the garage because she really didn’t believe her.
Fast forward to the age of 18 and Dani got a Facebook message from her cousin about coming to a local race track in Columbus Junction, Iowa. He wanted her to take some photos of his
car to send to his spon- sors. Little did she know that would change her life.
After that she was at Columbus Junction al- most every Friday. After that season, Dani and her now husband, were contacted by Lee County Speedway in Donnellson,
IA to be their track photographers. Since that time they have been the pho- tographers at Quad City Speedway, Scotland County Speedway, Southern
Iowa Speedway and their current track is 34 Raceway. They are also the official series photographers of the Sprint Invaders.
Dani shoots her photos with a Cannon DSLR. Photographers have to be swift of feet to stay out of the path of the cars, while still getting great shots. In 2013 she was 7-ish months pregnant and she was out shooting photos during a heated bat- tle in the stock car class, when they went 4 wide coming into turn 1. That caused a couple of the cars to end up in the infield, at which time she had 2 stock cars heading right towards her. Luckily right in front of her they split up.
“It was the scariest moment I had at the time and the drivers tried to butter me up after the races.” she said.
There are three lady racers at her tracks that she shoots. She is good friends with one, and the other two are part of a traveling series, so she doesn’t know them as well.
Dani’s goal in racing is to eventually be able to race one night just to see what it’s like, but she would like to start her own series or run her own track.
