“Stop burning stuff”
   Air quality is essential
In December 2020, nine year-old Ella Kissi-Debrah, who lived in Lewisham, southeast London, near the South Circular road became the first person to have “air pollution” explicitly defined as the reason for their death, and recorded on their death certificate. She suffered an asthma attack brought on by particulates.
Although we have sequentially tackled air pollution, we haven’t solved it.
We have to stop burning stuff – and development can be a catalyst for that – not only in its own right, but in helping existing places to change.
If Hopwell can be a beacon for this new thinking, because of its utterly unique location, then this could be a powerful reason to allow development there.
