Our Journey Through Time
For our journey back in time, I thought it would be interesting to explore our direct
connection to the famous Washington family. We will start our journey in the early
1700’s at the home of Mary Ball Washington, widow of Augustine Washington. Per‐
haps Mother Washington will offer us some of her famous gingerbread, before we
continue on to visit with her son George and daughter Betty.
From there, we will stop at the homes of each successive generation until we get to
familiar ground, the home of Robert Herndon Davison and Minnie Lee Foster. At each
stop, we will get to know our ancestors a little better, hear their stories and if we are
lucky, they might share a recipe or two with us. So buckle your seatbelt and we will
begin the journey.
Note
Since all of the modern contributors to this cookbook are related to Robert
Herndon Davison either by birth or by marriage, we will identify the ancestors
according to their relationship with Robert. Then it is a matter of simple math
to determine how you are related to the ancestors.
