3. RESULTS
3.1 Nanoindentation, random positioning of the indents.
Figure 2 shows typical load displacement curves for the Y as rec and Y fired
samples, for randomly selected positions. The load required to drive the diamond tip
1000 nm deep into the samples is ~ 80 mN for the Y fired sample and ~ 25 mN for
the Y as rec sample. The highest load required for the Y fired sample is indicative of
superior mechanical properties.

The mechanical property frequency histograms are shown in figure 3 and 4,
respectively for the E and H values. The significant standard deviations are expected
considering the random positioning and surface imperfections present on these
cement samples. The x axis in these graphs represents the property value,
measured in GPa, whereas the Y axis represents the frequency of occurrence, in %.
