THRUST 4

                             FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

Financial strength is considered as a main catalyst towards ensuring the
survival of an organisation. With the ongoing rising administrative costs,
coupled with budget cuts by the Government, the University has to be
innovative in creating wealth in order to ensure its continued survival.
Therefore, UUM considers Financial Sustainability as one of its main
thrusts in its Strategic Plan. With its prime objective of striving towards
becoming a financially self-sustained entity, three dimensions are
highlighted, namely, income from academic programmes, income from
non-academic programmes, and cost saving and financial management.
Numerous alternatives of income generation, such as introducing open
channel student admission, strengthening subsidiary companies, and
improvement of waqf and endowment, are emphasized. This is embedded
in efforts to reduce cost and to establish effective and efficient financial
management. For this purpose, five KPIs and 29 PIs are utilised to
                        measure achievements of this Thrust.
