weather occurring it affected our usual bite. So, it was a fickle season. One week the big-game bite would be 35 miles offshore and the captains, mates and anglers really had to work hard to get those flags flying high. In other weeks, the billfish bite was wide open with boats raising multiple fish and it seemed Marlin were in the spread as soon as baits touched the water.
Inshore, it was a bountiful season with plenty of bait around and the larger Roosters arriving to our waters a little late; but they were here in big numbers later
in the spring.
In September, our
Ambassador and Mamma at the lodge Mrs. Terri Kittredge Andrews was inducted into the IGFA Hall of Fame. This is the most prestigious honor any angler could ever achieve and the Tropic Star Lodge family is very proud of everything that Terri has done for billfish, conservation and the fisheries of Panama and the world.
We opened a beautiful
new spa towards the end
of the season and quickly
started tackling new
renovations to Cabin 3,
the Palace, and boutique.
Bertrams are back in
the water after their
upgrades. The new dock-side Marlin Bar will be completed by the end of the year. We’re excited to have the Marlin bar as a new place to swap fishing tales over some ice-cold drinks.
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors and partners helping us achieve our goals in keeping Tropic Star Lodge as the premier fishing destination and making sure it is a leader in conservation and education in environmental awareness.
This season was also extremely special to me on a personal note,
as I became a father.
As any father can tell you, everything about your life changes when this happens and I see the lodge and world in
a new light.
I’m extremely proud
to be part of a team who is constantly trying to be the best at what they do and who are always looking out for the environment we live and play in.
To be surrounded by so many talented, loving and good people is a blessing and one that my family really appreciates.
So, from myself, Mallory and our new son Logan, we would like to say thank you to all our amazing guests and staff for a phenomenal 2019 season– we can’t wait to see you all back at our fishing home deep in the Darien for the 2020 season and beyond.
Tight lines and fair seas, Capt. Rich
