Ocean Foundation and Nova Southeastern University. These satellite tags were set on Sailfish, Blue Marlin and Black Marlin. We are very much looking forward to seeing the data that we receive from this study as it will be very important in our conservation efforts. Tropic Star Lodge is committed to looking after our resources on land and the ocean to keep them pristine for the future generations.
Our Inshore season was an absolute blast. We kicked it off with classes for our captains and mates on new techniques and different ways to fish inshore. Learning from fellow anglers is such an important aspect of the sport as there is always something to pick- up no matter how experienced
one is. The crews took classes on jigging, boat placement, and different lure selections and presentations to use inshore.
The following week, we held our first ever inshore fishing seminar which was loads of fun and a huge success. Everyone from professional to novice learned something new. The fishing was great. Guests got to live the Tropic Star Lodge experience first-hand by ticking off giant Roosterfish, Bluefin Trevally and Cubera Snapper from their bucket-list’s and make new lifelong friendships.
Tropic Star Lodge hosted the Pan-American Roosterfish Championship this year and it was an honor hosting the event. We
had 28 anglers join us from all over the Americas and competition was fierce. In the end, team Canada took first place for the second year in a row, with team Mexico coming in second and Panama third.
Another highlight from the inshore season was hosting our first fishing outreach program. The IGFA had a goal to educate 100,000 children on fishing for their 80th anniversary year. To help achieve that, Tropic Star Lodge hosted practical classes on fishing techniques, conservation practices highlighting the importance of keeping our oceans clean and why catch and release of certain fish
species is vital to ocean health. We had fifteen kids participate, twelve of them were nominated by their teachers from the local village of Piñas Bay. The first day was a two- hour class followed by popcorn, pizza, and sodas to celebrate the end of their studies. The next day, the kids went fishing and caught and released billfish along with being able to take home edible fish to share with their families.
The summer season kicked off a little early this year with the rains beginning in June. But the rain did not stay consistent as it came and went throughout the summer months. The fish always follow the ocean currents and it seemed with all the inconsistent and unpredictable
