regular patrols to continue to safeguard our wildlife.
Karingani did everything within its powers to protect its staff and continue as
normal operations as possible. A dedicated vehicle and driver was designated
for external logistics, deliveries of food and supplies continued with additional
strict safety measures in place, and all shipments were met at the gate with a
designated offloading crew sanitising all of the goods with backpack sprayers
containing a bleach mixture while wearing protective gloves and masks. The
goods were then place in the sun, if non-perishable, for further sanitising by
natural UV rays.
Additionally a local doctor was contracted during lockdown to make visits

medication as needed. Extra long-term storage was setup for stockpiling
meat in the event of supply shortages or in anticipation of shops closing in the
country. Management also distributed protective supplies and toiletries such as
gloves, soap, toothpaste and reusable face masks to staff.
During the lockdown, Karingani adopted the ethos “I protect you, you protect
me” as all staff members were required to wear protective face masks when in
public spaces and while interacting with others.
We had no idea how far the spread of this pandemic was going to reach nor
did we know how the worldwide economy was going to handle the impacts
of lockdowns and closures, but we did know that together (well, at least with a
2-meter social distancing measure in place), we are strong, and we will continue
to keep Karingani Game Reserve operating, protecting our vital ecosystem and
the wildlife that calls Karingani home.
Staff who did not lockdown inside Karingani were invited to join external fence maintenance teams
