home and utilised on community members’ personal machambas to create
more productive farms on a smaller scale using best practices.
Kurhula Community Farm currently expands across 42 ha of productive
agriculture land including an 11 ha pivot and irrigation system using water
from Massingir Dam. During the second crop at Kurhula alone, the harvest
yield added up to 34.3 tons of sugar beans which were sold in both local and
national markets with a portion of the proceeds and harvest going directly to
the Cubo community. At the end of 2020, 24 ha of tomato plants and 12 ha of
cabbages were also planted.
