My favourite memory of primary school is going to school camps.
My favourite camp was a compromise instead of going to
Canberra it was at the Coffs Harbour Adventure Centre. At the
adventure centre they had cabins with bunk beds inside of them.
The beds were like the ones you lay down at a dental
appointment or at a GP. Outside of the cabins there was a small
basketball court and the hoops were only 6 or 7 feet tall (213.36
cm) then in front of the basketball court was a cafeteria that led to
the front office. On the first day people were dunking on each
other and I ended up dunking on four people. The activities at the
camp were a commando course with a mud mile at the end, a
giant plastic bubble called a z ball which can hold two people,
fencing, a 12 meter mega drop, a 10 meter giant swing, a sky wire
zip line and canoeing. It's really hard to pick a single activity but
my favourite has to be the mega drop which my group did first.
The mega drop is a 12 meter wooden power line pole with small
metal u shaped climbing metal stuck into the wooden pole to be
used as steps to climb up. At the top there is a steel platform to
step off and metal numbers pressed into the wooden pole to
represent how high you are from 3 to 12. You put on a rock
climbing helmet and a climbing harness that is attached to a rope
that goes up the power line pole. On my first attempt I only went up to ten metres but on the second
attempt I went all the way to 12 metres. I felt the blood rushing through my face and my stomach drop then
stepped off the feeling of relief rushed through me I felt very accomplished.
Proudest Moments
In the Second term and the fifth week of school the school was put on lockdown. There weren't many kids
at school and the whole of year 6 only made up half a classroom's worth of kids (about 30). And the
temporary teacher for the day Mr Earley said to line up and make a layup since we were at the basketball
court. The bell has just rung and I had to get a shot off quickly so I dribbled the ball two times to the right of
the hoop then shot a fade away and went in all net “swish nothing but net”.
Another one of my proudest moments is reading a speech that I
had worked really hard on to the class. It was slightly nerve
racking but I felt very accomplished.
Finishing a biography about a significant Aboriginal Australian
and collaborating with my friends was surprisingly fun.
Special Events
All of the sporting events and in Richmond groups I really
enjoyed participating in.
What I will miss
I will miss my friends that are going to school and miss being at
Wyrallah Road and some of the teachers.
