There were three games lost in the Pitching-In Southern League Premier Division South
on Bank Holiday Monday.
But it turned out to be a good day for leaders Farnborough as they beat Swindon
Supermarine and saw second-placed Metropolitan Police beaten at home by Walton
Casuals.
At the Easy As HGV Stadium, a crowd of 653 saw Spencer Day’s Boro men win 2-0 and move
six points clear at the top of the table. In fairness to ‘Marine, they gave as good as they got
for the majority of the game, and it was a penalty in the 56th minute earned by and
converted by Paul Hodges that really killed them off. Farnborough had led at the break,
thanks to a 37th-minute goal from former Supermarine favourite David Pratt.
A crowd of just over 500 saw the Surrey derby at Imber Court and witnessed the Met losing
on home soil for only the second time this season. Casuals hit the Met with two goals either
side of half-time, with Tarik Moore-Azille breaking the deadlock almost on the whistle and
then three minutes after the restart, John Gilbert adding the second.
In the 76th minute, Casuals had the chance to make it 3-0 when O’Halloran was brought
down in the box, but Rohdell Gordon blasted the resulting penalty over the bar. Walton
Casuals’ win has lifted them up to ninth in the table and only two points off a top-five spot.
Hayes & Yeading United are now third, now just three points behind the Met, after
winning 2-1 at the SKYex Community Stadium against Beaconsfield Town, who are 16th.
Moses Emmanuel gave the hosts a 14th-minute lead which Hassan Jalloh doubled within
four minutes. Two-nil at the break, but Paul Hughes’ side were dealt a blow just past the
hour-mark when they had Omar Rowe dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Callum Webb reduced the deficit with 15 minutes to go and then only a terrific save from
Ravan Constable kept Hayes & Yeading’s lead intact.
Hayes & Yeading slipped above Chesham United after they were held to a 2-2 draw in the
derby at third-from-bottom Kings Langley. There were 603 at The Orbital Fasteners
Stadium and saw Erin Amu give Kings a 20th-minute lead. Kieran Murphy pulled the Generals
back on level terms a minute before the break. Then on 77 minutes, Lewis Rolfe put the
visitors 2-1 ahead after an initial effort had come back off a post. Chesham then hit a post
before the hosts grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser from Sam Dreyer.
Fifth-placed Gosport Borough lost ground after losing 3-1 at Privett Park to fourth-from-
bottom Hartley Wintney. It was a day to remember for the Row’s Jordan Edwards in front
of 642. The former Swindon Town man gave the visitors a first-minute lead and then went
on to complete a fine hat-trick with strikes in the 28th and then 89th minutes.
Billie Busari managed a consolation goal for Boro in time added on at the end of the game.
With points for both Kings Langley and Hartley Wintney, Merthyr Town’s 3-0 defeat
at the Met Coaches Stadium against seventh-placed Yate Town leaves them in dire
straights in second-bottom spot and now ten points adrift of the Row in 19th. It was goalless
at half-time in South Wales, but then the Bluebells hit the Martyrs with two goals in four
minutes shortly after the break from James Harding and then Luke Hopper.
Ollie Mehew made sure of the points with Yate`s third in the 65th minute.
Poole Town are level on points with Yate in eighth after winning 4-1 at Dorchester Town
to push the Magpies back towards trouble in 18th. In front of a Dorset derby crowd of 767,
Corby Moore gave the visitors an early 7th-minute lead that Billy Lowes cancelled out within
two minutes. But that was as good as it got for the Magpies as an impressive Dolphins side
went on to claim the spoils with Luke Burbidge’s 77th minute second, an own goal attributed
to Callum Buckley five minutes later and then Will Spetch in stoppage time.
Harrow Borough could have gone joint fifth if they won at Earlsmead against mid-table
Hendon. But the North London derby spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw which saw both
teams finish with ten-men. And Boro boss Steve Baker will be disappointed to throw away a
two-goal advantage given to them by top scorer James Ewington after 12 and 30 minutes.
Joe White reduced the deficit for Lee Allinson`s side 10 minutes after the break and then
Harrow had George Moore dismissed for a last-man challenge on 66 minutes and Liam
Brooks equalised from the resulting penalty. Riccardo Alexander-Greenway came off the
bench for Hendon in the 62nd minute and was sent-off with a straight red card just nine
minutes later to leave the team's ten apiece.
