Welcome to the Lancer Scott Stadum
Good afternoon and welcome to the Lancer Scott
stadium, particularly to the officials, players and
supporters who made the short journey from
Clevedon Town.
I have some extremely sad news to tell you, Club
treasurer and committee member Jonathan
Rogers passed away very suddenly on Tuesday,
September 27. It’s came as a complete shock to
his family, friends and to everybody here at the
club. Jonathan has served as an administrator at
this level of football for many years and worked
closely with fellow committee member Phil Rex
who will be sorely miss him. Jonathan was in his
second spell at the club, along with Phil around 20
years ago and then moved to Brislington, again
with Phil. Jonathan had made a great impact at
this club and was a great help to me particularly.
We will all genuinely miss him and our thoughts are with his wife Rosie and
family.
Today we are celebrating the life of another friend of our club particularly to
Phil Rex, Alan Holly. Further on in the programme there is an article about Alan,
please have a read. We will be having a minute’s applause just before kick-off
where we remember both Alan and Jonathan.
Today’s game is sponsored by Phil Rex.
Today we will be wearing our new kit, which finally arrived from Karuta sports
(the manufacturer). this year‘s kit has been very generously sponsored by
Acorn Surfacing ltd, owned by a good friend of mine, Kev Greenwood, whose
son is currently centre half with Bridgewater Town. Kev/ Acorn Surfacing will be
sponsoring the game when we visit Bridgewater Town in February.
This coming Saturday we travel to Elberton Villa, Plymstock near Plymouth in
the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Vase. There are spaces for anybody wish to
join us on the coach. Full coach details are on the same page as Beech’s
column.
Onto today’s game, we have already met the Seasiders this season, an evening
game in August where we took all 3 points with a 3-2 victory. Goals from Wil
Solari, Miles Hardidge and a last-minute penalty from Joe Cattermole. I don’t
want to tempt fate by saying, it was our 4th meeting with our local rivals in 15
months, we have yet to lose and I think Clevedon regard us as their “bogey”
side. One thing for sure is that they will be absolutely fired up to change all that
today. Every game we’ve played in that period has been both entertaining and
challenging. Today will be no different.
Thank you for your support today, enjoy the game and please respect the
officials.
UP THE STAGS,
Mike, Chairman
