Leaders show their worth

                              Saturday 5th March 2022
                               Bridport 2 Brislington 2

Bridport registered their first draw in any compe on this season, as they
took their points total for the season to four, writes Jon Smith

The first half of the match was played in a gale which howled from end to
end of the ground, but strangely the hosts struggled when the wind
dropped a er the break! Brislington edged the first twenty minutes with
Ashley Kington’s wind assisted shot from twenty yards being pped over
the bar by Josh Lucas in the home goal a er 12 minutes. The visitors forced
three successive corners with 19 minutes elapsed, but if a ground with less
than one hundred watching can erupt, it did so with 28 minutes on the
clock. A er a series of concerted a acks, when Callum Arnold received the
ball ten yards out, he sent Brislington keeper George Dorrington the wrong
way, ne ng to give the Bees the lead. With their tales up, Raúl Vasile and
Arnold both worried the Brislington goal only for Joe McLennan to slam the
equaliser in off of the post from 18 yards three minutes before the break,
albeit with the Bees protes ng that an off the ball foul had been part of the
       build up.

Harry Boulton was unlucky not to give Bridport a dream start to the second
half as he shot wide in the first minute. However the visitors seemed to
master the change in condi ons be er than the hosts as McLennan scored
his second, a shot from the edge of the area which curled around Bridport's
goalie for 2-1 a er 59 minutes. It could have been 3-1 seven minutes later
as Sco Lewis sent a powerful header wide from a corner, but with the
home fans cursing their luck, the game took a drama c turn in the 87th
minute. With Harry Boulton chasing a through ball, Brislington keeper
Dorrington brought his opponent down just inside the box, incurring only a
yellow card in the process. Bees subs tute Dan Baggs smashed the ball
home with such force that if Dorrington had caught the ball, he would have
also ended up in the back of the goal!

Although the Bees fate is sealed for this season, the players and fans quite
rightly celebrated as if it were a famous victory.
